Adult Autism Matters - AAM

Adult Autism Matters (AAM) is a warm, welcoming peer support group for adults (18+) with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, including Asperger's Syndrome, as well as their carers, family members, and anyone interested in learning more or supporting the autism community.

We meet monthly on the third Thursday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Wednesfield Community Centre in Wolverhampton. Our meetings offer a friendly, supportive environment to share experiences, access useful information, and take part in group discussions, activities, and occasional guest speakers. We encourage suggestions for speakers and events, and are open to activities out in the community.

  • Subscription fee: £2.50 per session, but if you cannot afford it, you may pay less or nothing at all. Extra donations are appreciated and help cover room rental costs.
  • Accessibility: The meeting room is upstairs, but there is a lift available for one disabled person and carer. Parking is available, and the centre is easily accessible by bus.
  • Autism-friendly environment: We strive to make the room comfortable for autistic adults (e.g. no background music unless pre-arranged for social activities).
  • Support with benefits: Tim Harris, a retired Disability Appeals Tribunal Judge, offers advice and support for PIP and other benefits applications. His rates depend on ability to pay and are only due upon successful application.
  • Preliminary autism evaluation: Available from a trained group member (not NHS-recognised, but can provide a qualified opinion).

Carers and family members are always welcome. For more information, contact David at aam-david@harris-clan.org or Tim Harris at the numbers below.

Upcoming meeting dates for 2025: Thursday 16th October, Thursday 20th November, Thursday 18th December (Christmas Party).
