Join the ultimate marine wildlife adventure!
The Big Rock Pool Challenge is a vibrant, community-driven initiative that brings together citizen science and coastal exploration to protect and celebrate marine biodiversity. Delivered by The Rock Pool Project and the Marine Biological Association, this project empowers individuals and communities to connect with nature, contribute valuable biodiversity data, and support the health of our coastal ecosystems for future generations.
How does it work?
- Take part in monthly free local community events called BioBlitz Battles – fun, competitive wildlife discovery sessions open to everyone!
- Events currently run in Falmouth and Plymouth, with new hubs launching by the end of 2025.
- Discover amazing marine species and contribute to real scientific research and conservation efforts.
Why get involved?
- BioBlitz Battles are accessible and inclusive, welcoming all levels of experience.
- Connect with nature, learn from fellow enthusiasts, and enjoy a sense of community.
- Each event offers new challenges and discoveries, making every session unique.
- The data you help collect is verified and shared with national and international platforms, supporting research on environmental stressors, pollution, climate change, and non-native species.
Health and wellbeing benefits
- Rock pooling is a low-impact, outdoor activity suitable for people of all abilities.
- Spending time in 'blue spaces' like the ocean can reduce stress and anxiety.
- Being part of a community conservation effort fosters pride, accomplishment, and stronger local bonds.
