Ferrule Replacement Service

Keep your walking aid safe and effective with free ferrule checks and replacements across Medway.

A ferrule is the small rubber base at the end of a walking stick or walking frame. It provides stability, absorbs shock, and helps prevent slips and falls. Worn ferrules can increase your risk of falling, especially for older adults.

Why check your ferrule?

  • Worn ferrules can lead to serious injury, loss of mobility, independence, and confidence.
  • Falls are a major cause of emergency hospital admissions for older people.
  • Regular checks (every 3 months) and timely replacements help keep you safe.

Where can you get your ferrule checked or replaced for free?

  • At Medway Council's Walk in the Park sessions, Wellbeing Walks, Physical Activity Courses, Let’s Get Active Medway exercise classes, and Everyday Active sessions.
  • Any Medway library or community hub.
