Ferrule Replacement Service

Keep your walking aid safe and effective with free ferrule checks and replacements across Medway.

A ferrule is the small rubber base at the end of a walking stick or walking frame. It provides stability and absorbs shock, helping to prevent slips and falls. Worn ferrules can increase your risk of falling, especially for older adults.

Why check your ferrule?

  • Worn ferrules can lead to serious injury, loss of mobility, independence, and confidence.
  • Falls are a major cause of emergency hospital admissions for older people.
  • Regular checks (every 3 months) and timely replacement help keep you safe.

Where can you get your ferrule checked or replaced for free?

  • Exercise sessions: Walk in the Park, Wellbeing Walks, Physical Activity Course, Let’s Get Active Medway classes, Everyday Active sessions.
  • Libraries and community hubs: Visit any Medway library or community hub.
  • Selected pharmacies: Delmergate Ltd (Chatham), Medway Pharmacy (Gillingham), Ryders (Rochester), Hobbs (Strood).
