We are a Stroke Association Voluntary Group for people affected by strokes in the Hillingdon Borough. We provide a space for people to attend our group share their story. Some may come to our group for carer respite, while carers visit services in Uxbridge such as Carers Trust, Age UK or the two shopping centres in the area. Our friendly group of 20+ members come from all walks of life, and our group aims to give back to the individual who may have lost their independence due to their stroke. We support our members to make the best choices and we will always give information and advice to any who need it.
During a routine meeting, we provide stroke recovery activities, focusing on hand-eye coordination, speech therapy, memory and mathematics. We also host weekly quizzes, encouraging a friendly atmosphere of competition. Tea and biscuits are provided at each meeting, provided by our wonderful volunteers.
Overlapping support needs often arise within our group, and we provide person-centred care by initiating contact with suitable organisations, bridging our members to other charities to overcome technological / communication / travel barriers.
We meet every week, on Mondays, from 10:30am-12:30pm, in Bailey Hall Christchurch, Redford Way, Uxbridge, UB8 1SZ.
As long as you can travel down to our venue, anyone is welcome!
We are looking to recruit a Travel Support volunteer to provide a pickup / dropoff service for those with limited mobility.
If you need support with travel, we can fill out TaxiCard application forms with you, or contact Age UK on your behalf.
