BHT Maternity has an in-house Stop Smoking Service. This means you can be seen in your local maternity unit by a Tobacco Dependency Advisor (TDA) who is specifically trained and experienced in supporting pregnant women to stop smoking. The service offers 1-1 support as well as free access to nicotine replacement therapy and vapes. Support can be provided via face to face or phone appointments. You will receive stop smoking support throughout your entire pregnancy and can always opt back in if you initially decline.
All pregnant women who smoke are contacted within 1 working day of their booking appointment, and ex-smokers contacted after their first scan. The service runs Monday to Friday.
Many women find it difficult to stop smoking, but it is one of the most important things you can do to improve your baby’s health, growth and development. It is also the single most important thing you can do to improve your own long-term health. It is never too late to stop smoking. When you stop smoking, you and your baby will feel the benefits immediately.
