Parental Minds Counselling offers an affordable, open-ended counselling service for parents, caregivers, and families who are struggling with their emotional wellbeing. We believe that high quality support should be accessible to everyone, so our service is designed to be flexible and affordable—each person pays what they can afford.
What we offer:
- Open-ended, tailored counselling sessions with no rigid limits on the number of sessions.
- Sessions available face-to-face in Honiton or Exeter, or virtually (online) and by telephone to suit your needs.
- Quick access: we aim to connect you with a counsellor within 2-3 weeks of your initial contact.
- If there is a wait, we provide interim support through regular listening calls from our trained listeners, so you always feel heard and supported.
- Evening and weekend appointments are available, as well as daytime slots, to fit around your schedule.
- Our therapists are DBS-checked, supervised, and many have specialist expertise. Around half are student counsellors on placement, offering their time voluntarily to Parental Minds families.
- We welcome feedback and are committed to continually improving our service.
How it works:
- To access counselling, ask your Parent/Caregiver Peer Support Worker for a referral form. You’ll briefly describe your reasons for seeking counselling, your availability, and select a payment level that is affordable for you.
- After submitting your request, our counsellor will call you to discuss your needs and match you to the right therapist.
- Once matched, you and your therapist will arrange your first appointment and decide together on the frequency of sessions.
Cost: Our service is subsidised and operates on a pay-what-you-can basis, making counselling accessible regardless of financial circumstances.
Who can use this service? Anyone registered with Parental Minds can request a referral. We support parents, caregivers, and families who are experiencing emotional difficulties or mental health challenges.
Our commitment: We are a not-for-profit Social Enterprise, reinvesting any income from our counselling service to further support and finance our wider support services. Your wellbeing is our highest priority, and we are dedicated to walking alongside you every step of the way.
