Chiltern Craniosacral therapy

Cranio Sacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that helps your body heal by encouraging the natural flow of fluids and releasing areas of tension. During a session, the therapist uses specific hand placements to facilitate the release of fluid stagnation within tissues and stimulate optimal flow of cerebrospinal fluid.

This therapy is rooted in osteopathy and has evolved to treat the whole body, not just the head and sacrum. Developed from the principles of Andrew Taylor Still and William Garner Sutherland, Cranio Sacral Therapy is now widely practiced in the UK.

Benefits include:

  • Pain relief (especially for headaches, migraines, TMJ issues, sinusitis, lower back and pelvic pain)
  • Deep relaxation
  • Improved emotional well-being

Most people report a soothing, relaxing, and symptom-alleviating experience, with sensations such as warmth, pleasant tingling, muscle relaxation, and pressure release.

What to expect:

  • You’ll lie on your back on a massage table while the therapist gently rests their hands on your skull and sacrum to evaluate craniosacral rhythms.
  • The therapist may also hold other areas along the spine or body where energy feels stuck.
  • After the session, you may experience a temporary flare-up of symptoms as your nervous system adapts. Staying hydrated helps with fluid relief and circulation.
