Food in Community Totnes

Food in Community’s team gather and sort surplus fresh fruit, vegetables and other nutritious, sustainably produced food from farmer's fields, orchards and other local food producers, then we make up and deliver weekly food boxes to struggling households in Totnes and district and to charities across South Devon. We also serve hot meals at our Totnes pay what you feel cafe, cooking workshops and offer community event catering. Nearly three million portions of perfectly edible, fresh and largely organic vegetables and fruit have been placed back into the Devon community for people to enjoy.

We welcome referrals for:

  • A weekly fresh food box delivery. Especially of benefit for people who are struggling to afford the food they need to maintain good health or to manage a health condition. We can supplement the box with a shopping voucher for new referrals if extra financial help is necessary, enabling people to choose the toiletries, household cleaning materials, packets, tins and other essentials they need.
  • Volunteering with Food in Community. We do our best to match tasks with volunteers' interests and abilities.  Volunteers are invited to take produce home with them if they would like to, or can receive a food box delivery as a thank you for volunteering with us. We have all kinds of volunteering opportunities in line with the broad range of activities we run and we are a diverse team. If you are unsure about whether we are a good match for your client, please get in touch.
  • Supported small group field gleaning. This is a perfect opportunity for people of all ages who might benefit from being outdoors, usually in beautiful countryside, in a very low pressure environment. Gleaners are able to contribute usefully to the gathering of food, whilst staying in control of the amount of interaction they have with others.
