Need help getting to appointments, shops, or social activities? The East Cambs Social Car Scheme offers a friendly, door-to-door transport service for people who are frail, elderly, isolated, or find public transport difficult to use.
Our volunteer drivers will pick you up from your home and take you wherever you need to go, making travel easier and more comfortable. We aim to help you stay independent and connected to your community.
- Who can use the service? Anyone in East Cambridgeshire who is elderly, frail, isolated, or unable to use public transport.
- How does it work? Contact our car desk to request a journey. We’ll match you with a volunteer driver, confirm your pick-up time, and keep you updated if anything changes.
- Costs: You pay the driver 45p per mile from their house to yours, then 50p per mile from your house to your destination and back. There is also a £1 booking fee to cover office overheads. All payments are made in cash at the end of your journey.
- Availability: The car desk is open Monday to Thursday, 9:30am–12:30pm. Outside these hours, you can leave a message with your journey details.
