Community Wheels, Caldbeck Minibus Transport Scheme

Community Wheels Caldbeck offers accessible minibus transport for registered residents in rural areas where scheduled bus services are not available. The service is operated by volunteer drivers and is designed to help people get around safely and reliably.

Key features:

  • Operated by trained volunteer drivers (MiDAS standard).
  • Available to registered residents of Whelpo, Caldbeck, Hesket Newmarket, Newlands, Sebergham, Rosley, and Welton.
  • Passenger fares are 25 pence per mile.
  • Minibuses can also be hired by not-for-profit groups to support community activities.

How it works:

  • You must be registered with the scheme to use the service.
  • Seats must be pre-booked in advance.
  • NOWcards and concessionary passes cannot be used.

Volunteer drivers: If you are interested in volunteering, you will need a full driving licence and Category D1. Expenses are covered, and training is provided.

Contact us to discuss your transport needs or to volunteer as a minibus driver. The service is a partnership between Cumberland Council, Cumbria Community Transport and the local community, ensuring the minibuses are legal, roadworthy, and available where needed.
