Independent Living Suffolk

Independent Living Suffolk (ILS) is a free service provided by Suffolk County Council in partnership with local district and borough councils. Our goal is to help you live safely, comfortably, and independently in your own home for as long as possible.

Who can access ILS?

  • Anyone living in Suffolk
  • Homeowners or those with landlord's permission

What we offer:

  • Advice and information about your housing options
  • Occupational therapy service – holistic assessments in your home to identify difficulties and discuss solutions
  • Home adaptations – including grab rails, major adaptations (such as converting a bath to a wet room), and improvements to help you stay independent
  • Support with funding – guidance on grants, savings, and equity release options
  • Advice about paying for work

Our experienced team will guide you through all aspects of housing choice, ensuring you understand the options available. Initial advice is always free.

Occupational Therapy Service:

  • Holistic assessments in your home
  • Help with daily living activities
  • Major adaptations (means tested)
  • Housing reports to support moving to a more suitable home
  • Advice and signposting to other agencies
