If you need urgent dental care in Suffolk or North East Essex, help is available through the NHS.
If you have a regular dentist, contact them first. Many dental surgeries offer emergency appointments and will provide care if it is clinically necessary.
If you do not have a dentist or cannot reach yours, call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk. NHS 111 can put you in touch with an urgent dental service and offer self-care advice while you wait to be seen.
When to go to hospital:
- Heavy bleeding
- Injuries to your face, mouth, or teeth
- Severe or increasing swelling of your mouth, lips, throat, neck, or eye
If you are unsure whether you need A&E, contact NHS 111 for advice.
Cost: Emergency or urgent dental treatment costs £27.40, unless you are entitled to free NHS dental treatment. If you need further treatment, this will be considered a separate course and may incur additional charges. Always ask your dentist about costs and request a treatment plan if needed.
How to access:
- Contact your usual dentist for emergency appointments
- Call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk for urgent dental care
- Do not contact your GP for dental emergencies
Self-care: If you are in pain while waiting to see a dentist, take painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (if suitable for you).
