Sands

Sands is the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. We are here to support everyone touched by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby, no matter when it happened. Our mission is to create a compassionate community, inspire change, and turn understanding into action.

Every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during, or soon after birth, and at least 1 in 6 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Thousands of families experience the heartbreak of pregnancy and baby loss every year. Sands provides a safe, understanding, and caring community for anyone affected, whether your loss was recent or long ago.

Our support services include:

  • Free, confidential telephone helpline
  • Email support
  • Online group sessions
  • UK-wide network of local peer-support groups
  • Social media groups for connection wherever you are
  • Free resources for partners, siblings, grandparents, and wider family and friends

We also offer accredited training for healthcare professionals, community workers, and employers to ensure excellent bereavement care and sensitive support in the workplace.

Sands is committed to research and advocacy. We listen to bereaved parents, put their experiences at the heart of research, and campaign to keep pregnancy and baby loss on the political agenda. By working with politicians and decision-makers, we help improve maternity services and save babies’ lives.

If you or someone you know needs support, call our Helpline on 0808 164 3332 or email helpline@sands.org.uk. You can also find your local support group or access online resources via our website.
