Green Gyms at Walkmill Community Woodland

Walkmill Community Woodland is a vital and much loved open space, which was saved from sale by Cumbria County Council in 2018 and is now designated as a community asset.  It is important because of its signficant historical and industrial heritage.

West Cumbria Rivers Trust is working in partnership with Moresby Parish Council and the local community ont the "Wilder Walkmill" project.   This aims to improve access for all, create new and improved habitats to support nature recovery.

Creating volunteering opportunities is at the heart of the project and Green Gyms take place on the 4th Thursday of every month between 10:30am and 3pm.   Volunteers get involved in a range of outdoor activities and benefit from being in nature and in good company.     Volunteering is open to anyone over the age of 18 and people can join in as much or as little as they like.    Activities include: planting trees, path maintenance, woodland walks, learning bushcraft techniques or just enjoying the new wildlife meandow.     There is always tea and cake!
