Gender Based Abuse Support - Outreach and Refuge Accommodation

Independent Gender-Based Violence Advocates (IGVA’s) – specialist service for those who 
are at risk of harm within a family or intimate partner relationship

Perpetrators Service –Applicable to Children Social Services - an intensive case management 
approach, co-ordinating with the Family Support & Safeguarding and Life Planning Teams a 
multi-agency response to hold perpetrators accountable for domestic abuse and facilitate 
changes in their beliefs, attitudes and behaviour.

Young People’s Advocate – A specialist service for young people aged 11 – 17 years old who 
may be at risk of or are experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, and child sexual 
exploitation. 

 Children’s Outreach Worker – A specialist service for children and the non – abusing parent 
impacted by domestic abuse


Eastern European Outreach - A specialist service for Eastern European women who have 
suffered abuse. This is a specialist outreach service staffed by multi-lingual expert practitioners, 
for Eastern European women and children from the following countries: Albania, Belarus, 
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, 
Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, 
Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine -Eastern European Helpline: 0790 900 0195 

 Tech Empowerment – A specialist service to empower survivors of abuse about the safe use 
of technology


The service is available to those living, working or attending school in Barking and Dagenham who 
have experienced, or are at risk of, gender-based violence including:
• Domestic violence and abuse
• Rape, sexual violence 
• Prostitution 
• Trafficking for sexual exploitation 
• Stalking and harassment
• Female genital mutilation (FGM)
• Forced marriage 
• So-called ‘honor’-based violence 
• Child Sexual Exploitation 

Consent based service - consent must be obtained from clients before support can be offered. 

Refuge Accommodation - 2 refuges within the borough, these spaces are safe places for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. These spaces are only available for women who are fleeing into the borough and not for those already residing in the borough due to safety concerns.

Refuge - women and children only fleeing into the borough;
