The Supported Employment Programme from B&D Works is a free service designed to help adults with learning disabilities, autism, or both, find and keep meaningful work in Barking and Dagenham.
Our Local Supported Employment programme offers tailored, one-to-one support to help you move into employment and thrive in the workplace. We work closely with you and local employers to ensure you get the right job and the support you need to succeed.
- Participant engagement: Learn about the Supported Employment model and decide if it's right for you.
- Vocational profiling: Discover your strengths, interests, and goals, and create a personalised employment plan.
- Engaging employers: Our Support Worker collaborates with employers to make the recruitment process accessible and supportive.
- Job matching: We help you find vacancies that fit your skills and ambitions.
- In-work support and career development: Receive ongoing support, including job coaching, workplace mentoring, and regular reviews to help you settle in and progress.
Eligibility:
- Aged 18 or over
- Have a learning disability, autism, or both, and meet the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability
- Not currently on another DWP or government employment programme, or in full-time education or work
Referrals: We accept self-referrals and referrals from care coordinators and other providers.
Cost: This service is free for eligible residents.

To be eligible for the programme, individuals must be aged 18+, have a learning disability or autism or both and meet the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability. Individuals must not be on another Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) contracted employment programme or provision including the European Social Fund. Individuals must also not be on another employment programme or provision delivered by another government department, charitable trust, or third party. Individuals must not be in work or full-time education.
