Need help with small jobs and minor repairs at home? Age UK Berkshire’s Handyperson service can arrange a trained and experienced handyperson to carry out a range of practical tasks in your home across West Berkshire, Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell Forest.
The team can help with small household repairs and minor adaptations, including window and door locks and other security items, smoke and CO2 detectors, light bulbs and small electrical fittings, minor plumbing works, grab rails and hand rails (excluding stair rails), key safes and intercoms, draught proofing windows and doors, curtain poles and blinds, and other minor repairs (ask for details).
Some jobs are not covered, including major electrical work, gas work requiring a Gas-Safe registered technician, high-up or high level work, painting and decorating, heavy machinery work (for example chainsaws), and gardening. For work they cannot do, they can suggest one or more local traders, although they do not make recommendations.

Referrals are welcomed from older people, families and carers, and also from social workers, occupational therapists, GPs, and hospital discharge teams.
Cost: £25 per hour, plus the cost of materials. Works provided via a referral from the council or hospital, specifically to assist in security, reduce hospital inpatient stays or to enable a quick discharge from hospital, are currently provided free of charge.
