SANEline is a national out-of-hours mental health helpline offering specialist emotional support, guidance, and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends, and carers.
Open every day from 4pm to 10pm, SANEline provides a safe, confidential space to talk about your mental health or the wellbeing of someone close to you. Our trained volunteers are empathic and non-judgemental, ready to listen and support you, especially if you are experiencing a moment of crisis.
- Who can use SANEline? Anyone aged 16 or over in Great Britain and Northern Ireland is welcome to call. If you are under 16, we can direct you to specialist services for your age group.
- How to access: Call 0300 304 7000 between 4pm and 10pm, 365 days a year. If you cannot call during these hours, you can request a Call Back by leaving a message on 0300 124 7900 with your first name and phone number. We will call you back within a few days (UK only).
- Cost: SANE does not charge for its services. Calls to our 0300 number are included in most phone plans or charged at standard geographic rates.
- Confidentiality: All calls are confidential. We only break confidentiality if there is a risk of serious harm to you or others, and we will try to inform you beforehand.
What to expect:
- A supportive, non-judgemental conversation about your mental health or concerns for someone else.
- Guidance and information about other forms of help or treatment.
- Support for family members and carers.
Note: The Call Back service is not a crisis line and does not provide counselling or therapy.
