Literacy support

ABC to read is an award-winning charity dedicated to helping primary school children in Berkshire who are struggling to read. Our mission is to transform lives by building children’s confidence and reading skills, ensuring they have the literacy tools needed for a happy, fulfilled life.

We recruit and train volunteer reading mentors who work one-to-one with children in local primary schools. Through regular, supportive sessions, our volunteers help children develop a love of reading, improve their literacy, and boost their self-esteem.

  • One-to-one support: Children receive personalised attention tailored to their needs.
  • For schools: We offer support and training to help improve reading attainment among pupils.
  • For families: We provide resources and training to help parents and carers support their children’s reading at home.
  • For volunteers: Join our team and make a real difference in your community. We provide full training and ongoing support.

Without strong literacy skills, children can face lifelong challenges. ABC to read is determined to help as many children as possible across Berkshire to unlock their potential and thrive.

Get involved: Whether you’re a school, a parent, or someone who wants to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us to find out more or to get started.
