Merton Adult Social Care: Occupational Therapy Team.

Stay independent at home with support from Merton Council.

If you have a physical disability, we can help you live more comfortably and safely in your own home. Our Occupational Therapy Service offers assessments to identify equipment and adaptations that can make daily life easier.

  • Minor adaptations and equipment: After an OT assessment, we may supply equipment and make adjustments to your home (up to £1,000 in value) at no charge to residents. Examples include:
    • Raised toilet seats or commodes
    • Bath boards or shower chairs
    • Grab rails
    • Door widening
    • Equipment for people with sensory impairments
  • We focus on simple solutions that help you regain independence, often without the need for complex or disruptive building work.
  • Major adaptations: If you have more complex needs, further home alterations may be recommended. Funding may be available through the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) process, which includes a financial assessment to determine any contribution you may need to make.

How to apply:

  • If you are over 18 and feel you would benefit from equipment or changes to your home, contact our Occupational Therapy Service.
  • Referrals for children are also accepted using the same contact details.

There is no charge for minor adaptations or simple equipment for residents. For major works, funding and financial assessment are available.

Our goal is to help you stay safe, comfortable, and independent in your own home.
