Managing Emotions Programme (MEP)

The Berkshire Managing Emotions Programme offers a range of psychoeducational courses for adults experiencing difficulties with managing their emotions. Commissioned by Berkshire Healthcare and delivered by Together for Mental Wellbeing, this programme is designed to help participants develop practical skills and strategies to improve emotional regulation, wellbeing, and quality of life.

What we offer:

  • Three individual psychoeducational courses, plus a dedicated course for carers (currently not running).
  • Courses are co-produced with people with lived experience and delivered alongside lived experience practitioners and peer mentors.
  • Streamlined access to psychoeducational support rooted in the voluntary sector and recovery college model.
  • Focus on empowerment, inclusion, and connectedness through shared lived experience.

Course Details:

  • Course 1: Single-session introduction (2.5 hours) covering the function of emotions and basic coping skills.
  • Course 2: Four-week course (2 hours per week) exploring emotional awareness, labelling emotions, coping skills, and making positive changes.
  • Course 3: Eight-week in-depth course covering emotional awareness, regulation, communication, personal values, acceptance, goal setting, mindfulness, and more.
  • Course 4 (Carers): Four-week course for carers supporting someone with emotional difficulties (not currently offered).

Delivery: Courses are available both online (via Microsoft Teams) and in person at venues across Berkshire. Each group is limited to a maximum of 12 attendees to ensure a supportive environment.

Eligibility:

  • Adults aged 18 and over, registered with a GP in Berkshire.
  • Identified as having difficulties regulating and managing emotions, and assessed as low risk to themselves and others.
  • No formal diagnosis of personality disorder required.
  • Referrals must be made by GPs or external professional teams; self-referrals are not accepted.
