Beechwoods Nature Reserve is a beautiful woodland area filled with majestic beech trees, offering a peaceful escape just outside Cambridge. The reserve is free to visit and open to the public all year round, making it an ideal spot for a stroll, quiet reflection, or connecting with nature.
Why visit?
- Spending time outdoors and in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve wellbeing.
- A brisk walk in the woods can boost your mood, concentration, and fitness.
- The tranquil setting is perfect for taking a breath and feeling calm.
What to expect:
- Mature beech trees planted in the 1840s create a secluded and impressive woodland atmosphere.
- Information panels on site share the history of the woods and details about local plant, bird, and animal species.
- Free parking is available in a large layby on Worts Causeway (please take care crossing the road), and bike racks are provided at the entrance.
- The site can be muddy after rain, so bring walking boots or wellies. It is recommended not to visit during high winds.
- There are no visitor centre, café, shop, or public toilets on site. Please bring your own drinks and snacks if planning a longer visit.
- Campfires and BBQs are not allowed.
- 'Kissing gates' at the entrance mean access is not easy for pushchairs or wheelchair users.
Opening times: The woods are open all day, every day.
Cost: Visiting Beechwoods is free, but donations to the Wildlife Trust are welcome.
Beechwoods is managed by The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. For more information or to discover other reserves, visit the Wildlife Trust website.
