The Five Transformations, or Five Elements, is a system which shows us how to find balance in ourselves, in our relationships and with the world around us. It can teach us where we are stuck and what is needed to restore flow. The literal translation of the Chinese expression is ‘the Five Walkings’, this signifies that we are concerned with the characteristic movement of different qualities of Ki (vital energy) in our body, mind, and spirit.
The Five Elements are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Tree (often referred to as Wood) and our use of them in practice deals with the relationship between the elements themselves. These elements are believed to be the fundamental components of the universe and are associated with different aspects of nature and human life.
Earth
The first session will address the Earth element. In this workshop, we will look at the mental, emotional, and physical aspects and learn the basics of touch and acupressure point work. We will learn about our relationship with this element and what may be out of balance.
If you have a tendency for an overactive mind, bloating, an over-giving nature, prone to candida or damp conditions, frequent feelings of guilt or lack of self-worth, then come and learn some practical skills to restore balance. You will come away with a tool kit of self-care to integrate into your home life.
The Five Elements are a series of workshops run by the Woods for Wellness project in partnership with Wild Light – Shiatsu School.
Woods for Wellness is a project which aims to create subsidised ‘woodland wellbeing services’, intertwining the natural healing environment of the woods with professional therapeutic guidance.
Wild Light is a training center dedicated to the practice of reconnection – to self, other, and planet. The work draws upon the practices of Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga, and Zen meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. It offers courses, retreats, and shiatsu practitioner training, as well as a weekly Shiatsu clinic on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. They aim to shine light on all parts of your being so that you can live more fully!
