Safe Soulmates

Safe Soulmates began in 2018 with a vision to end loneliness for neurodivergent adults and adults with disabilities, and a realisation that there was a need for a safe service to encourage people to connect in a safe way, free from ‘mate crime’ abuse. We do this by hosting events (20 per month) online, and in person in Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ely and Peterborough. The feedback we get is positive - a quote from one parent : ‘I see glimmers of her coming out of the darkness, Safe Soulmates has done so much for her!’ parent.

We have grown over the last 5 years into a peer-led community of belonging where people not only connect, but thrive, growing in confidence, independence and self-worth. Our updated vision is for every neurodivergent and disabled person to have a voice, a place to belong, to connect and to feel empowered to achieve in whatever way is important to the individual (employment, volunteer opportunities, a sense of purpose, or, for some, not feeling suicidal (autistic men are 9x more likely to feel suicidal and for women this increases to 13x more likely (source: Mencap Oliver McGowan Training, April 2024).
