Take control of your diabetes with support and education in Cornwall.
If you have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, or have been living with it for some time, our structured education courses are designed to help you manage your condition and live a healthier, more confident life. No matter how long since your diagnosis, you can benefit from expert guidance and peer support.
What we offer:
- Courses delivered by trained diabetes educators, available both face-to-face and virtually.
- Three 90-minute sessions covering key topics: understanding diabetes, lifestyle changes, healthy eating, medication, and local support options.
- Opportunities to meet others with diabetes, ask questions, and learn about local resources.
- Family members or friends are welcome to attend for support.
Session topics include:
- Diabetes and You: What diabetes is, differences between type 1 and type 2, signs, symptoms, complications, and medication overview.
- Diabetes, Lifestyle and You: Physical activity, sleep, stress, alcohol reduction, smoking cessation, healthy eating, and signposting to local activities.
- Diabetes, Food and You: Eating well, food groups, blood glucose impact, food labelling, portion control, and hidden sugars.
How to access:
- Book online for face-to-face or virtual courses.
- Virtual sessions are delivered via Microsoft Teams, accessible on computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone.
- Easy cancellation or amendment up to 24 hours before your session.
Eligibility:
- Newly diagnosed (within the past year) with type 2 diabetes and aged 40+: book 'Diabetes and You' (face-to-face or virtual).
- Newly diagnosed (within the past year) and aged 18-39: book 'Diabetes in the Young' (virtual).
- Living with type 2 diabetes and/or previously attended a course: book 'Diabetes and You Refresher'.
