What is the Diya Group?
Diya is a support group for South Asian community members living in Harrow who are experiencing poor mental health and wellbeing. Diya provides members with a ‘safe space’ to talk about their experiences and participate in member-led activities and techniques to improve mental wellbeing.
Diya’s monthly activities respond to the culturally-specific mental health needs of our local South Asian community – such as mental health stigma, social isolation and loneliness – all of which are significant barriers to recovery. All Diya sessions are accessible to South Asian community members respecting members’ language, religious and cultural needs. The Diya Group is FREE and runs once per month in central Harrow.
What activities does Diya run?
Diya sessions include a member-led wellbeing activity, be it yoga, arts and crafts or a cultural celebration event OR a mental health professionally-led session, such as Talking Therapies – which so many of our members find significantly improves their wellbeing.
The design and delivery of Diya’s monthly activities is the result of our members’ contributions – all of whom have lived experience of mental ill health or support a friend or family member with poor mental wellbeing.
