The Visual & Hearing Impairment Team at Coventry City Council offers specialist support for adults living with sight and/or hearing loss in Coventry.
Our team of Rehabilitation Workers helps people who are:
- Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing
- Visually impaired
- Experiencing dual sensory loss (both sight and hearing loss)
We promote independent living by providing assessments to understand how your impairment affects your daily life. This may include difficulties with reading, writing, cooking, making drinks, or crossing the road. You do not need to be formally registered to access our service.
Our support includes:
- Advice and provision of communication devices for those with hearing loss
- Information, training, and demonstrations of equipment to help with daily tasks
- Signposting to services for purchasing equipment
- Specialist assessments for those with dual sensory loss impacting daily living, mobility, and communication
If your needs cannot be met by equipment or rehabilitation training, you may be offered a wellbeing assessment with a social worker or community care worker.
Registering as blind or partially sighted: If you are having problems with your sight, visit your GP or optician for a referral to a consultant ophthalmologist. If you qualify, you may be entitled to travel concessions, a Blue Badge parking permit, and other benefits.
For more information, see our team leaflet or contact Adult Social Care Direct to refer yourself or someone you know.
