Energy Advice

If you have any service users that you would like to refer to our free service, please do so via the online referral form or pass our number (0800 953 1221) on to the service user and ask them to call us (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm).

We know how hard it has been for everyone lately, with the huge increase to the cost of living and energy prices going through the roof. We know that people are struggling to heat their homes and put food on the tables, often having to decide on doing one or the other. At SHINE, we want to reduce the number of households having to make these decisions to heat or eat. We want them to know that there is help and options available to them.  SHINE support residents of Barking and Dagenham and residents of other London Boroughs.

At SHINE we support people with disabilities, the elderly, young families and the vulnerable with a range of services including:

A FREE Energy Doctor home visit – to review energy bills, check heating controls and fit energy efficient measures such as low energy light bulbs, draught proofing, reflective radiator panels and water saving devices
Energy and Bills advice – our dedicated advisors can provide advice and support on energy saving measures, billing and meters, heating systems and controls
Water discount – We can help eligible customers to register for half price or capped water bills.
Energy debt support – our advisors can give advice with payment plans, supplier mediation and grant applications to clear arrears.
Extra Care Services – if you have additional needs, you can get support if there is a power cut, accessible utility bills, supplier password systems etc.
Heating and insulation grants – for private tenants and homeowners
Income Maximisation – benefit checks and budgeting advice
Fire safety check – a visit from London Fire Brigade to check fire alarms and help prevent accidents
Air pollution alerts – helping those with respiratory issues plan days out
London Taxi card – subsidised taxi journeys for people with limited mobility or visual impairments
Food Bank – vouchers for free food parcel from various foodbanks across London

Our SHINE Advisors would be happy to arrange a convenient date and time to come out and speak with your service users and even your staff. We regularly attend community events to promote our services and offer advice to the most vulnerable service users within our communities and we would be happy to come and do the same at any of your events.  If this is something you would like to arrange, please contact us on 0800 953 1221 or email us at shine@islington.gov.uk
