The Transgender Mentor scheme connects trans individuals in Staffordshire with experienced trans mentors who offer practical guidance and a listening ear.

What you can expect:

  • Personalised support: Receive tailored advice on navigating social and medical transition, legal matters, and finding trans-friendly services such as hairdressers, businesses, and healthcare providers.
  • Lived experience insights: Gain valuable perspectives from those who have walked a similar path, including recommendations for affirming and inclusive spaces within the community.
  • Community connections: Build relationships with other trans individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and shared understanding.

Our mentors provide:

  • A safe space to discuss your experiences and concerns.
  • Practical guidance on relevant resources and support services.
  • Encouragement and empowerment as you navigate your journey.

Service access criteria:

This scheme is available to individuals who:

  • Identify as transgender and are aged 16 or above. This includes anyone whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
  • Live in Staffordshire. Our focus is on providing support within the local community.
  • Are seeking guidance and connection on their trans journey. Whether you're just beginning to explore your gender identity or are further along in your transition, our mentors are here to offer support.
  • Agree to uphold our values. All participants are expected to demonstrate respect and inclusivity towards others within the programme, adhering to SSHC's values of acceptance and understanding.
