Step 150 years back in time at Ravenglass Railway Museum!
Located at Ravenglass station on the beautiful Cumbrian coast, our museum brings the story of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway to life. Affectionately known as the ‘Ratty’, the railway has a rich history spanning 150 years, and our recently redeveloped museum showcases this heritage through exciting displays and hands-on interactive features.
What you'll discover:
- A fascinating collection of artefacts, including steam locomotives, carriages, tickets, uniforms, and models.
- Interactive exhibits that let you experience the railway’s history and the origins of Ravenglass as a Roman port and Eskdale’s iron-ore mining past.
- Featured exhibits such as Synolda, Katie, ICLNO1, and Big Saloon.
Entry is FREE! We are open daily from February half-term to October half-term, and throughout the winter when the Railway is running. Some locomotives can be seen operating at Ravenglass in the summer months—please call ahead for availability.
Get involved: We welcome volunteers and gratefully accept donations to help us continue sharing the railway’s story.
Your journey starts here—plan your visit and explore the wonders of railway history!
