We understand that when your child comes out as transgender, it can be a time filled with questions and emotions. SSHC's Transgender Parent Support Scheme is here to provide you with the guidance and understanding you need to navigate this journey alongside your child.
How it works:
- Connect with a trans volunteer: We'll pair you with a transgender volunteer who can offer firsthand insights into the trans experience.
- Ask your questions: In a safe and confidential space, you can ask any questions you have about gender identity, transitioning, and what it means for your child.
- Gain valuable perspectives: Our volunteers offer personal stories and lived experiences, helping you understand your child's journey on a deeper level.
- Reduce fear and misunderstanding: This service provides a judgement-free zone where you can learn and grow without worrying about saying the wrong thing.
- Build a stronger relationship with your child: By gaining a better understanding of the trans experience, you can foster greater empathy and connection with your child.
Our volunteers are here to:
- Provide information on social transition options.
- Offer advice on how to create a supportive and affirming environment for your child.
- Share resources and connect you with relevant support services.
- Answer your questions with compassion and understanding.
