Shama Women's Centre offers dedicated support for women and people from minority ethnic communities impacted by gambling harms through our Holistic Recovery Programme.
We understand that gambling harms can be a hidden addiction, often surrounded by shame, guilt, and cultural stigma. Our team is here to listen, help, and support you, your loved ones, or anyone affected by gambling harms in a safe, non-judgemental space.
- 1-1 Support: Book an appointment with our Peer Support Worker for confidential help, available face-to-face or by phone.
- Group Support: Join our weekly 'Chai & Chat' sessions every Thursday (12.30-2.30pm) for creative activities, information, and a supportive community. Visit our 'Holistic Hub' every Tuesday (2.00pm – 5.00pm) at Haymarket Shopping Centre, Leicester, for wider support services.
- Free Classes: Become a member to access free classes in baking, cooking, hair, and beauty, designed to build confidence and connections.
- Further Support: Access in-house services for mental health & wellbeing, money worries, welfare advice, domestic abuse, and more. We also offer referrals to specialist support such as GamCare East Midlands and the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN).
- Multilingual Team: We strive to support you in your preferred language, helping you feel comfortable and understood.
- Training for Organisations: We provide culturally sensitive training and workshops for agencies, community groups, and ambassadors to raise awareness and reduce stigma around gambling harms.
