Staying Active

Staying Active is Huntingdonshire District Council's 9-week activity programme designed to help residents aged 55 and over become more active, move more and improve overall wellbeing. Delivered by the One Leisure Active Lifestyles team across multiple venues, the programme brings together a balanced mix of physical activity and healthful lifestyle guidance in a friendly, supportive setting. Participants can expect a varied timetable including functional movement classes, gentle exercise sessions, wellbeing walks, adapted sports and team games, with activities chosen to suit all abilities. The course aims to help you build mobility, confidence and social connections, while keeping activities enjoyable and achievable. After completing the 9 weeks, eligible participants may receive a free 90-day pass to use One Leisure facilities (subject to eligibility), enabling continued access to gym, swimming, badminton, indoor cycling and other targeted activities across One Leisure venues and community sites. What does Staying Active involve? * 9 weeks of group activity led by qualified instructors * Activities include functional movement, exercise classes, wellbeing walks, adapted sports and team games * Clear benefits for older adults, including improved mobility, sleep and wellbeing * Locations across Huntingdonshire (e.g. Coneygear Centre, Huntingdon; Old School Hall, Sawtry; One Leisure St Ives; Community Centre, Ramsey) * Cost: Staying Active itself is free of charge * How to access: complete the online application form on the Huntingdonshire site; eligibility criteria apply Eligibility and access * Participants must be 55 years old or over and live in Huntingdonshire * Must meet at least two of the following: starting exercise after inactivity; needing help with daily living tasks; unsteadiness or balance problems; muscle weakness; long-term health conditions (e.g. arthritis, osteoporosis); fall risk factors * A free 90-day One Leisure pass is available to those who meet eligibility criteria after the programme How to join * Complete the online application form on the Huntingdonshire website * For more information, contact activelifestyles@huntingdonshire.gov.uk
