GYGYC is a dedicated charity supporting young carers and young adult carers in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.
We provide a seamless support service for children and young people up to age 18 (and young adult carers up to age 21) whose lives are affected by caring for someone with a disability, long-term illness, or health condition. The person cared for may be a parent, sibling, or another family member, and the care can be practical, physical, or emotional.
Our services include:
- Age-specific peer support groups
- One-to-one mentoring
- Counselling
- Respite activities and trips to local attractions
- Positive activities and learning opportunities
Our groups offer a break from the intensity of caring, helping young carers feel less isolated and more empowered. Youth Workers and Young Carers Support Workers provide role models, coping strategies, and support through key transitions such as moving from junior to secondary school, and on to further education, training, or employment.
We focus on supporting wellbeing and mental health, ensuring every young person has a voice in planning and developing our charity.
GYGYC is based at the Shrublands Youth and Adult Centre in Gorleston and runs regular programmes during term time, as well as holiday activities. We welcome referrals and enquiries from families, schools, and professionals.
