People's Shed - Peterborough

The People's Shed is a welcoming community space for adults aged 18 and over in Peterborough. Here, you can pursue practical interests, learn new skills, and enjoy making and mending in a relaxed, friendly environment. Whether you're interested in building, repairing, or painting mainly wooden items—such as bird nest boxes, bee hotels, bat boxes, puzzles, and models for the Railworld site—you'll find companionship and a sense of accomplishment.

Why join?

  • Combat isolation and make new friends over a cuppa.
  • Help others and learn practical skills in a supportive setting.
  • Contribute to the community and enjoy a sense of achievement.

Membership is open to adults over 18. Before your first visit, the Shed Team will chat with you about your interests, experience, and preferences to ensure a good fit. This can be done by phone or in person. For safety, your experience with tools and workshop environments will be assessed, and guidance or training is available. An induction covers orientation and safety topics.

What to bring? No special equipment is required—just wear old clothes. Specialist PPE can be loaned, though regular members often bring their own (e.g., safety glasses, overalls).

Facilities: There is a large car park at Railworld Wildlife Haven, and toilets are available in an adjacent building. The Shed is a five-minute walk from the car park, over sometimes uneven paths. Wheelchair access may be tricky, but mobility scooters have been used by members.

Cost: Attendance is free, with coffee and tea provided. There are no membership fees. Donations towards materials and tools are welcome but not required. If you wish to build your own projects, you should provide most materials or purchase them from the Shed.
