Monthly peer support groups for adults bereaved by suicide in Cumbria.
If you have lost someone to suicide, you are not alone. Our peer-led support groups offer a safe, confidential space to share your experiences, connect with others who understand, and find hope together.
- Supportive environment: Meetings are informal and private, held in community venues across Cumbria. You can talk as much or as little as you wish, and there is no obligation to share.
- Led by volunteers with lived experience: All facilitators have themselves been bereaved by suicide and are here to listen, support, and help you feel understood.
- Flexible format: Each meeting includes group introductions and sharing, followed by informal conversation in smaller groups over tea and cake.
- Practical help: Learn about local and national support services, resources, and coping strategies. Books and materials are available to borrow at each group.
- Bring someone with you: You may bring a friend, family member, or colleague to your first meeting(s) for support.
Who can attend? Anyone aged 18 or over who has been bereaved by suicide, regardless of when the bereavement occurred or your relationship to the person lost. Children may accompany you for the first meeting(s) if needed.
How to join: Locations are private for confidentiality. Please contact our Support Group Co-ordinator before attending to confirm details and ask any questions. If your bereavement is recent (within 3 months), we recommend speaking to Paul for individual support before joining a group.
Meeting locations: Groups run monthly in Penrith, Carlisle, Kendal, Barrow, Maryport, and Whitehaven. Dates and times are listed on our website.
Cost: All groups are free to attend.
Confidentiality: What is shared in the group stays within the group, except in cases of risk to safety.
Feedback and improvement: We regularly seek anonymous feedback to ensure our groups are supportive and effective.
