Mindfulness of Breathing

Samatha is a traditional breathing mindfulness meditation technique that calms the mind and develops insight. We teach a structured practice with a series of stages that take about six months to learn. While Buddhist in origin, our classes are suitable for everyone.

Programme for 2025 at the ETNA Centre, 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham TW1 2AR:

  • Thursday nights: Ongoing beginners’ mindfulness and meditation class, open to all, from 8pm to 9pm. No background in meditation or mindfulness is needed. Beginners are welcome to join at any time. Each week, there is an opportunity to speak one-to-one with the meditation teacher about your practice.
  • Tuesday nights (at intervals through the year): 8-week Introductory course in mindfulness and meditation, from 7.15pm to 8.30pm. The next course is likely to start in January 2026.
  • Monday nights: Monthly study group from 8pm to 9.30pm, open to those who have completed all stages of the Samatha meditation practice. This group includes meditation, chanting, and dhamma discussion.
