Dance for Dementia

Dance for Dementia is a welcoming and creative programme from English National Ballet, designed to support people living with dementia through the joy of dance, music, and social connection.

Led by experienced Associate Artists and supported by a caring team of volunteers, these classes offer a safe, inclusive space for participants, their families, loved ones, and carers to enjoy movement together. Sessions feature both seated and standing exercises, inspired by ballet and contemporary dance techniques, and are suitable for all abilities.

What to expect:

  • Weekly classes at the Mulryan Centre for Dance, a dementia-friendly, accredited building in East London.
  • Live music accompaniment and creative exploration of themes from English National Ballet’s repertoire, such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
  • Opportunities for social time, access to performances, and behind-the-scenes experiences.
  • Community outreach, including taster workshops in care homes and memory cafes, and resources for care staff to deliver their own dance sessions.

Why join? Dance encourages freedom, expression, and connection, while supporting strength, mobility, and wellbeing. Studies show dance can help mitigate some negative effects of dementia, with many participants feeling the benefits for days after each class.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Join us to move, connect, and experience the uplifting power of dance in a supportive environment.
