Empowering Adults to Take the Next Step Towards Work or Training
Cumbrerland Futures is a brand-new programme launched in June 2025, designed to support adults aged 24 and over who are currently economically inactive and looking to re-engage with work, training, or personal development.
We also welcome referrals for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or in insecure work and seeking to increase their hours or progress in their employment journey.
Our support is free, person-centred, and non-judgemental, with a focus on building confidence, identifying strengths, and removing barriers to employment or education.

We operate across Cumberland, including:
- Carlisle
- Maryport
- Workington
- Whitehaven
- Millom
- Surrounding rural communities
What We Offer:
✅ 1-to-1 Guidance - Personalised support with CV writing, interview skills, job applications, and job searching.
Access to Training and Education - Support with enrolling in training, courses, and skills development opportunities to improve employability.
Signposting and Holistic Support - Referrals to trusted partners such as Citizens Advice and Together We to address wider challenges including financial worries, mental health, and confidence building.

To be eligible for support from the Cumberland Futures programme, individuals must meet one of the following criteria:
✅ Primary Eligibility:
- Aged 24 or over
- Currently economically inactive (not in paid employment and not actively seeking work, e.g. due to health, caring responsibilities)
✅ OR:
- Aged 18 or over
- Unemployed (actively seeking work but not currently employed)
- Underemployed (working part-time or casual hours but looking to increase hours or find more secure work)
- In insecure employment (e.g. zero-hours contracts, temporary roles, or short-term agency work)
Additional Considerations:
- Must live within Cumberland (including Carlisle, Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven, Millom, or surrounding rural areas)
- Must be willing to engage in personal development, training, or employment support
