Gardening Workshops

The Grow & Swap Project helps families and individuals in Blackpool discover the joys of gardening, growing their own food, and sharing skills with others. We support complete beginners as well as those with some gardening experience, creating a friendly and inclusive space to learn together.

Participants start with a garden clearance where needed, making space safe and ready for planting. We then provide a starter kit including raised beds, compost, and seeds, plus monthly workshops and home support to build skills and confidence. Sessions cover practical topics such as soil preparation, planting, composting, and seasonal food growing, with plenty of time for questions and hands-on practice.

The workshops are designed not just to grow food, but to grow community connections and wellbeing. Many of our participants are people who:

Feel isolated or disconnected from others.
Live on a low income and want to save money by growing fresh produce at home.
Want to build confidence, try something new, or improve their wellbeing through outdoor activity.
All tools and materials are provided, and sessions are run by experienced, DBS-checked facilitators. Participants are also encouraged to share their produce, tips, and experiences with others, creating a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Every place in the Grow & Swap Project is fully funded, so there is no cost to take part. This makes it accessible to anyone in Blackpool who would benefit. Together, we are turning backyards, balconies, and community spaces into places of growth, learning, and connection.
