Social Broadband Tariffs Explained
FasterBroadband provides a free service that helps people across the UK find affordable broadband through low cost social broadband tariffs. It compares more than 35 discounted broadband packages designed for households receiving government support benefits such as Universal Credit and Pension Credit.
"The FasterBroadband social tariff comparison service is free, not-for-profit, and open to anyone across the UK looking for a cheaper broadband deal"
Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and phone packages designed for households receiving government support benefits. They work in the same way as standard broadband services but at a lower price. Most include unlimited broadband, have minimal or no setup costs, and the monthly price stays the same for the entire contract.
You can switch to a social tariff if any member of your household receives one of the benefits listed below.
If your circumstances change, you can leave the contract at any time without paying early termination charges.
Eligibility
Households qualify if they receive:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Attendance Allowance
- Care Leavers support
Exclusive Broadband Deals
If a social tariff isn’t suitable for your circumstances, FasterBroadband also provides access to a wide range of exclusive broadband packages. Its price comparison tool compares over 400 broadband deals from trusted UK broadband providers, helping you find a service that matches your needs and budget.
Postcode & Address Checker
A separate postcode and address checker lets you enter your street-level address to compare broadband speeds and availability at your property. Results show whether your home can receive full fibre broadband, part fibre broadband (FTTC), or hyperfast broadband, as well as the speeds you can realistically expect.
Accessibility
The service includes accessibility features such as adjustable text size, colour changes, reading guides and larger cursors, making it easier to use for people with additional needs.
Broadband Jargon Guide
A free Broadband Help Guide is also available to make technical language easier to understand. It’s interactive and designed to build confidence when comparing services, helping you understand what each option offers and choose the one that best suits your needs.
FasterBroadband has a strong focus on accessibility and digital inclusion. As an active member of Disability Rights UK, the service continually works to improve accessibility features and ensure they are usable by as many people as possible.
