Adolescent Boys Mentoring is a 12-week, one-to-one mentoring programme for boys aged 11 to 24 who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. Our programme provides a safe, supportive space for young men to talk about their experiences, understand their emotions, and build confidence and self-esteem.
Each week, participants meet with a dedicated male support worker to explore how past experiences affect them, learn to recognise healthy and unhealthy relationships, and develop strategies for staying safe and accessing support. Sessions are flexible and can take place in-person at school, college, our offices, or a community centre, as well as digitally via WhatsApp, phone, or Facetime—whatever works best for the young person.
Key benefits of the programme include:
- Breaking down the stigma and secrecy of domestic abuse by providing space to talk about challenges and their impact.
- Psychoeducational support around healthy relationships, trauma, and emotional regulation.
- Building a trusted relationship with a professional adult and identifying a support network.
- Guidance on staying safe online, including social media and online dating.
- Recognising healthy and unhealthy behaviours in relationships and knowing where to turn for support.
- Opening up conversations about the importance of consent.
- Empowering young people to make choices and have their voices heard.
We work closely with schools, sixth forms, and colleges across Canterbury, Ashford, and Folkestone & Hythe, collaborating with safeguarding teams to ensure a safe and secure environment for sessions.
Our support is flexible and personalised to meet the unique needs of each young person. If you or someone you know could benefit from this programme, referrals can be made by a professional, parent, or legal guardian.
There is currently a waiting list of 6-9 months for this service.
