NEW for 2026! Our ADHD Parent/Carer Support Service has been commissioned by Leicestershire County Council and is for families living in the boroughs and districts in the County (not the City of Leicester or Rutland). Parents and Carers of young people under 19 can get support at any stage of their child or young person's ADHD journey - whether they are just starting to consider whether their child may have ADHD, if they are on an assessment waiting list or if they have been diagnosed. Families who are not seeking a diagnosis are welcome.
Family life can be challenging! Our workshops aim to help families understand more about ADHD and how they can apply this knowledge to real life struggles so they can thrive. Our monthly peer support groups encourage families to connect with others on their ADHD journey.
Thrive: workshops for Parent and Carers
Our 'Thrive' workshops are two hours long and are delivered over two weeks. You will need to be able to attend both workshops. Thrive workshops are suitable for parents or carers of children and young people (19 and under) who may have ADHD or who have been diagnosed with ADHD. A maximum of two adults per family may attend.
Workshop 1: Understanding ADHD
- Understand the scientific differences between the ADHD brain and non-ADHD brain
- Understand what it feels like to have ADHD
- Executive Functioning and Sensory Challenges: what they are and why they are important in understanding the challenges ADHD can bring to daily life
- Understand you can have ADHD and still THRIVE
Workshop 2: Parenting Hacks
This workshop is about using the knowledge from Workshop 1 to support the challenges your family experiences. We will:
- Consider how society views ADHD
- Apply Executive Functioning knowledge to understand a situation your child or young person struggles with
- Understand triggers
- Look at strategies to try at home
Connect: monthly peer support for Parents/Carers
COMING SOON: We are setting up Connect groups in the boroughs and districts within Leicestershire County:
- Charnwood
- Melton
- Market Harborough
- Blaby, Oadby and Wigston
- Hinckley & Bosworth
- North West Leicestershire
Connect groups will be 2 hours long and take place monthly in each area. They are for the parents and carers of children or young people at any stage of their ADHD journey. The groups will be facilitated by two members of the Heads Up team and will be a place to learn more about different aspects of ADHD, how to manage the challenges this may bring to family life and to celebrate the good stuff! Most of all, Connect will give parents and carers a place to share their experiences and get peer support from other families who 'get it'. You can attend a group at the location most convenient to you.
