Support for Families from DABD offers practical, friendly help for families with children who have additional, behavioural, or complex needs. We understand how challenging it can be to find time for yourself, and our service is designed to provide much-needed respite while encouraging independence, confidence, and valuable life skills for your child.
Befriending Service: Our one-to-one Befriending service matches your child with a dedicated support worker who helps them access activities they enjoy or would like to try. Available for children and young people aged 5–24, seven days a week including evenings, this service is flexible to your child’s interests—whether it’s swimming, a trip to the park or cinema, bowling, attending a youth club, walking, shopping, or a meal out. The support worker accompanies your child and helps them participate fully in their chosen activity.
Independence Skills: For young people aged 13+, our support workers can accompany them to activities such as cinema, bowling, sports or social clubs, or shopping trips. These experiences help build choice, confidence, independence, and essential life and social skills, supporting young people as they move into adulthood.
