Bereavement Help Point, Ellesmere Port Library

Bereavement support is available across Cheshire West and Chester Libraries, offering a range of resources and peer-led sessions to help individuals and families cope with grief and loss.

We support National Grief Awareness Week and The Good Grief Trust’s campaign, encouraging open conversations about death, dying, and grief. Our libraries provide a curated booklist with useful titles on topics such as talking about death, writing wills, self-help, and managing grief.

Local support includes:

  • Drop-in Bereavement Support Sessions at Frodsham Library (1pm - 2pm, first Monday of the month).
  • Bereavement Help Points at Storyhouse and Ellesmere Port Library – volunteer-led peer support drop-ins for anyone who is bereaved or supporting someone who is bereaved.
  • Bereavement Café at Northwich Library at Weaver Hall Museum – informal peer support and mindful activities for discussing grief and bereavement.
  • STAR Group (Share, Talk and Remember) at Frodsham Parish Hall – a peer support group for those grieving from bereavement, loss, or difficult transitions.

We also signpost to local organisations such as the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Countess of Chester Hospital Bereavement Support, and The End of Life Partnership, which offer dedicated support and guidance.

National support resources are available, including:

  • At a Loss – UK’s bereavement signposting website
  • Bereavement Advice Centre – practical help after someone dies
  • Carers UK, Child Bereavement UK, Compassion in Dying, Cruse Bereavement Support, The Good Grief Trust, Grief Encounter, Hope Again, Hospice UK, Marie Curie, Mind, NHS, Winston’s Wish, Young Minds, and more

Whether you are seeking information, peer support, or practical advice, our libraries are here to help you find the right resources and connect with others who understand what you are going through.

All sessions are free and open to anyone affected by bereavement.
