Newbury ShopMobility

Shopmobility provides a service for people who have permanent or temporary mobility difficulties.   The Newbury Shopmobility facility is available not only to the permanently disabled but also to those whose mobility is restricted by age, accident or illness, whether temporary or for a long period.

Customers can hire from a range of manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and electric scooters to enable their shopping trips as well as business and leisure visits to Newbury town centre.

We also sell a variety of aids and equipment to support people in their homes too, equipment such as pill boxes, walking sticks, raised toilet seats and smaller items to help with personal hygiene and everyday tasks.

We provide free parking for Shopmobility users, and a wheelchair accessible toilet is also available.

How much will Newbury Shopmobility cost me?
There is a low-cost annual membership fee to use the scheme.  In addition, we charge daily or weekly low-cost hire contributions, which vary depending upon type of vehicle hired and duration.

It is possible to reserve one of the vehicles for use over a longer period for which a long-term hire rate is charged.

When and where is Newbury Shopmobility?
Newbury Shopmobility is open between 10:00am and 3.00pm on Monday to Saturday

It is located on the ground floor of the Northbrook Street multi-storey car park. The car park can be accessed by car via West Street and Pembroke Road and on foot from Northbrook Street (between Santander and WHSmith's) or West Street.

Can I park nearby?
Free parking is available for users of the Shopmobility service on the ground floor of the car park. If you are driving follow all signs to Shopmobility and Northbrook Multi-storey Car Park.

Do I need to book?
Although you can just drop in, it is preferable to book a wheelchair or scooter in advance in order to avoid disappointment and a wasted trip.

Before you use the service for the first time you will need to register in person. This is a one-off occurrence, and on subsequent visits you can make use of the service by quoting your name and register number (if you know it). You will need to bring in two forms of identification that display your home address when registering.

If you would like to make a booking, or just discuss what we have to offer, call the scheme on 01635 523854, email at NewburyShopmobility@vcwb.org.uk or just drop into our office on the ground floor of the Northbrook Street car park.
