Junior Nutrition Kitchen - Programme for Primary Schools

Exciting news! Nutrition Kitchen has been commissioned by Newham Council to bring you this FREE and amazing opportunity for all Primary Schools in Newham (ONLY) called:

Junior Nutrition Kitchen Cooking Programme!

This programme is designed to teach families the importance of eating well and making healthy lifestyle choices. We will need committed families who can attend the whole 8-week programme. The 1 hour will include of hands on cooking and exercise for the whole family. The weights of adults and the children will be taken at the beginning and end of the programme to keep as a record of progression of the individuals time in the programme. Being commissioned by Newham Council, this is to target families over a healthy weight therefore BMI will be checked for eligibility on the first week of the programme.

What you can expect from us:

The 8-week programme will be covering the recipes and messages below:

Week 1: Mega Salad with Dressings – Importance of measuring out ingredients.
Week 2: Frittatas – Breakfast
Week 3: Chicken/Vegetable Fajita – Eat Well Plate
Week 4: Exercise – Fun activities for all
Week 5: Bean Burger – Proteins are the Building Blocks
Week 6: Stir Fry – Getting your 5-a-day
Week 7: Fish Cake – Omega 3: Food for your brain and heart!
Week 8: Carrot Energy Balls + One-cup pancake – Dessert made Healthy

What we need from you:

At least 15 committed families to be enrolled, reminders to be sent out each week and numbers of confirmed attendees emailed to us. This is to ensure sufficient equipment and ingredients are brought to the school.

For each cohort we will require 15 committed families. Any dropouts should be replaced with families on a waiting list. The age of the child should be 5 years and above to take part in the cooking, the parent/guardian must be always present. Younger children may attend as long as parent will be able to look after them. The school will be required to support Nutrition Kitchen in making sure families complete the 8-week programme.

Risk Assessment:

We will plan in a visit to your school to carry out a risk assessment and to make sure the space allocated is suitable for our sessions. We will require an area suitable for 15 families with 10 tables in the classroom, enough power sockets for 6 induction hobs, an accessible sink with hot and cold water, toilets for adults and children and appropriate air ventilation. All ingredients and equipment will be provided by us.
