Action for Autism Barnsley (AfAB) is a small, friendly charity based in Barnsley Town Centre, dedicated to supporting adults who identify as neurodiverse. We offer free weekly sessions for adults aged 18 to 62, providing a welcoming space to meet others with similar life experiences, build friendships, and enjoy a variety of engaging activities.
Our sessions are designed to help members:
- Meet new people and build social connections
- Feel a sense of belonging and acceptance
- Gain structure and focus in their week
- Be themselves without pressure or the need to mask
- Grow in confidence and communication skills
- Share and listen to experiences in a supportive environment
- Try new things in a safe, non-judgmental space
- Ease feelings of loneliness and isolation
Members and support workers consistently share how AfAB has helped them or those they care for to feel more confident, less lonely, and more engaged in life. Parents and carers are welcome to attend sessions with their loved ones if needed.
Getting involved is easy! There is no formal referral process or cost. We simply ask that you fill in our contact form, and we’ll arrange a friendly chat to help you choose the session that suits you best and answer any questions you may have.
Join AfAB to:
- Connect with others who understand your experiences
- Enjoy a variety of fun and interesting activities
- Be part of a supportive, inclusive community
