Connect to Tech: Try-Before-You-Buy

Connect to Tech is a friendly, practical service from Ruils Independent Living, designed to help adults get online and make the most of technology in their daily lives.

Our IT support team can visit you in your home to set up a device you own, ensuring it works for you and your needs. We offer hands-on support to help you learn how to use all the features your device has to offer, and teach you how to troubleshoot any issues you may encounter.

If you don’t have a device, but would like to own one to help you be more independent or connect with your community, our ‘try before you buy’ scheme lets you borrow items such as phones, smart watches, laptops, tablets, and smart speakers for up to 3 months. We’ll help you choose the right device, set it up, and support you to purchase your chosen equipment after the trial period.

We can support you to:

  • Set up your new device
  • Create an email address and provide practical tips
  • Connect with people using video calls (WhatsApp, Zoom, etc.)
  • Install and use apps (NHS app, BBC Sounds, Audible, Bus Times, Uber, etc.)
  • Understand and use smartphone accessibility features and accessibility apps
  • Access social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
  • Shop online (food shop, PayPal, E-bay, Amazon, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot issues

Our service is available to adults and unpaid carers living in the London Borough of Richmond. We also signpost to other technology support, training courses, workshops, and peer support sessions in the area.
